What is COPD? COPD or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is a preventable disease that affects a person’s ability to breath by causing excessive sputum production. Currently there are over 300 MILLION cases worldwide and COPD is the third leading cause of preventable death globally. How does someone get COPD? There are multitudes of factors that can lead to COPD but a few main causes are long-term exposure to tobacco smoke and exposure to toxic gasses or pollution. World COPD Day strives to bring awareness to this disease so we can all work to help those in need. Some ways we can help are to be conscious of pollutants, exercise regularly, and reduce exposure to toxic chemicals such as tobacco smoke.
